HISTORY/SOCIAL SCIENCE ("a") - 2 YEARS REQUIRED

Journey for Justice in America (Grade 12)
Subject: History/Social Science/American Government/Civics
CTE industry sector/pathway: Public Services/Legal and Government Services
Journey for Justice in America places the study of American government and civics within the context of the Legal and Government Services pathway in the Public Services CTE industry sector. This course introduces students to the principles on which the United States was founded, including the structures of government, the balance between individual and civil liberties, and the ways in which order is maintained through law enforcement and the judiciary. This course could be part of a Public Services Academy’s sequence of legal and government services and history/social science courses.

US History and Public Health (Grade 11)
Subject: History/Social Science: U.S. History
CTE industry sector/pathway: Health Science & Medical Technology/Support Services
US History and Public Health lets students analyze major historical events, trends and concepts within the context of public and community health. Students make connections between the evolution of medicine and the development of American thought and government, which are brought into sharp relief by events such as the Enlightenment, the Civil War and the Great Depression. This course could be part of a Health, Science, and Medical Technology academy  in a sequence of Public and Community Health and History courses.

World History by Design (Grade 10)
Subject: History (“a”)
CTE industry sector/pathway: Arts, Media, & Entertainment/Design, Visual, & Media Arts
In World History by Design, students practice visual media and design career skills while developing a deeper understanding of significant periods and events in world history. Revolutions, wars and globalization inspire and inform students' visual arts projects in which they learn to use the elements and principles of design - and in the process come to nuanced understandings of the events and trends that make up world history. Assignments include creating a digital book of law after examining and analyzing primary source documents, and creating a layered map of Europe illustrating significant geopolitical changes. This course could be part of an Arts, Media & Entertainment academy in a sequence of history and social science courses.

ENGLISH ("b") - 4 YEARS REQUIRED

Applied Medical English (Grades 11, 12)
Subject: English
CTE industry sector/pathway: Health Science & Medical Technology/Therapeutic Services
Applied Medical English challenges students with rigorous English Language Arts content as they explore questions regarding medical ethics, study how culture informs health care decisions, and examine other key elements of careers in Health Science. Applied Medical English could be part of a Health Science and Medical Technology Academy as an advanced course in a sequence of English and health science courses.
Communication by Design
(Grade 11)
Subject: English
CTE industry sector/pathway: Arts, Media, & Entertainment/Design, Visual, & Media Arts
In Communication by Design, students examine all modes of media - written and visual, print and digital - in order to understand the choices artists and authors make while delivering a message in a particular context or for a particular audience. In turn, students begin the practice of making their own artistic choices to deliver messages via multiple forms of media, thus developing skills needed in a digital media career. By the end of the course students have a complete portfolio of work housed on a website of their own design. This course could be part of an Arts, Media & Entertainment academy in a sequence of English courses. 

Depth of Field (Grades 11, 12)
Subject: English
CTE industry sector/pathway: Arts, Media, & Entertainment/Production and Managerial Arts
Depth of Field teaches English concepts while challenging students to express themselves as individuals and as active participants in society. Students sharpen critical thinking skills and artistic sensibility as they create video projects and write critical analysis papers in response to reading and viewing assignments. Depth of Field could be part of an Arts, Media, and Entertainment Academy in a sequence of production and managerial arts and English courses.

Designing the American Dream (Grades 11, 12)
Subject: English
CTE industry sector/pathway: Arts, Media, & Entertainment/ Media and Design Arts
In this course, students examine the idea of the “American Dream” as it is depicted in literature and film. Students respond to these works in a variety of written assignments while at the same time mastering the technical skills of video production. Designing the American Dream could be part of an Arts, Media, and Entertainment academy as an advanced course in a sequence of English and digital media arts courses.

Get Reel: English through Your Lens (Grade 10)
Subject: English
CTE industry sector/pathway: Arts, Media, & Entertainment/Design, Visual, & Media Arts
In Get Reel, students are challenged to intensively analyze text, including visual media, informational writing and fiction and to develop the skills to produce powerful video messages, oral presentations and written works that critically examine varied ideological and social influences. For the final project, students create a documentary on an influential community member, including writing a written proposal and a production blog. This course could be part of an Arts, Media & Entertainment academy in a sequence of English courses.

Integrated Marketing and English (Grade 11)
A-G Subject: English
CTE career pathway: Professional Sales and Marketing
Integrated Marketing and English introduces students to the foundational concepts of marketing within the framework of academic English, allowing them to develop the critical reading, writing, speaking, and thinking skills necessary for both college and career. For students who are interested in marketing as a career or who just want to be informed consumers, this could be an intermediate course in a Marketing Academy’s sequence of marketing and English courses.

Language Takes the Stage (Grade 9)
Subject: English
CTE industry sector/pathway: Arts, Media, & Entertainment/Performing Arts
The written word comes to life in Language Takes the Stage, a course in which students consider what theater is and why we feel compelled to create it. In addition to analyzing, researching, and writing about text, students in the course take an active role in transforming text to performance. Language Takes the Stage could be part of an Arts, Media, and Entertainment Academy as an intro course in a sequence of English and performing arts courses.

Literacy, Advocacy and Public Service (Grade 11)
Subject: English
CTE industry sector/pathway: Public Services/Human Services
Literacy, Advocacy and Public Service focuses the study of  English Language Arts on public services; specifically, social services. Through research, synthesis and close reading of informational and literary texts written for diverse purposes and audiences, students have the opportunity to acquire skills they can then use to compose texts for real audiences and authentic purposes. This course could be part of a Public Services academy sequence of Social Services courses.

MATHEMATICS ("c") - 3 YEARS REQUIRED

Algebra at Your Service (Grades 9, 10)
Subject: Mathematics – Algebra I
CTE industry sector/pathway: Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation/Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation
Students enrolled in Algebra at Your Service complete challenging group and individual projects, applying algebraic solutions to problems within the hospitality industry. Students learn the role algebra plays in making decisions about such things as food preparation and cost analysis, while also studying the industry's economic and environmental impact. This course could be part of a Hospitality Academy as the intro course in a sequence of hospitality and mathematics courses.

Algebra 2 for the 21st Century (Grades 9-12) 
Subject: Mathematics – Algebra 2
CTE industry sector/pathway: Information & Communications Technology/Programming & Systems Development
Algebra 2 for the 21st Century integrates Algebra 2 content with game, simulation, and software development concepts. Students research, analyze, and modify existing program code and develop their own, integrating major Algebra 2 concepts such as linear functions, quadratic functions, polynomial function, and rational expressions. This course could be an intermediate course in a sequence of ICT and mathematics courses at an ICT Academy.

Business Algebra (Grade 9)
Subject:  Mathematics – Algebra I
CTE industry sector/pathway: Finance and Business/Business Financial Management
What does Algebra have to do with business? Business Algebra answers this question as students learn the role algebraic concepts such as linear equations, inequalities and quadratic functions play in the work of business financial management. Business Algebra I course could be part of a Finance and Business Academy as an intro course in a sequence of finance and business/mathematics courses.

Business Algebra II (Grades 10-12) 
Subject:  Mathematics – Algebra II
CTE industry sector/pathway: Finance and Business/Business Financial Management 
While learning advanced mathematical concepts such as advanced linear equations, exponents and polynomials, students enrolled in Business Algebra II analyze business concepts such as revenue, cost, and profit maximization. This course could be part of a Business Academy as the intro course in a sequence of business and mathematics courses.

Business Statistics (Grades 11, 12) 
Subject:  Mathematics – Statistics
CTE industry sector/pathway: Finance and Business/Business Financial Management
Business Statistics introduces students to elements of statistical concepts, techniques, and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data as applied in business. The course focuses on the student as a user and producer of statistics to inform and support decision making in business with emphasis on the use of business-oriented computer statistical instruments. This course could be part of a Business Academy as a course in a sequence of business and mathematics courses.

Constructing Algebra 2 (Grades 10-12) 
Subject: Mathematics – Algebra 2
CTE industry sector/pathway: Building Trades & Construction/Residential and Commercial Construction
Constructing Algebra 2 allows students to build their algebra skills while they build a scale model or actual residential home. These hands-on projects give students the chance to see how mathematics is applied in a real-world setting. Constructing Algebra 2 could be part of Building Trades and Construction Academy as an intermediate course in a sequence of construction and mathematics courses.

Da Vinci Algebra 1 –  Math (Grade 9) 
Subject: Mathematics – Algebra 1; Visual and Performing Arts
CTE industry sector/pathway: Arts, Media, & Entertainment/Media and Design Arts
Da Vinci Algebra 1 elevates mathematics to an art form, as students utilize fundamental Algebra 1 concepts to complete projects in 2D and 3D art and design. Da Vinci Algebra I could be part of an Arts, Media, and Entertainment Academy as the intro course in a sequence of digital media art and mathematical courses. (Da Vinci Algebra 1 is offered as a two-period course – mathematics and visual and performing arts. Students receive credit for both.)

Engineering Geometry with Physics – Math (Grades 9, 10)
Subject: Mathematics – Geometry; Laboratory Science  – Physics
CTE industry sector/pathway: Engineering and Design/Engineering and Design
Engineering Geometry with Physics is designed to introduce students to the vital role geometry and physics have played in the development of the modern world. Students earn college-prep credits for geometry and Laboratory science, while exploring the world of engineering career fields and disciplines. Engineering Geometry with Physics could be part of an Engineering Academy in a sequence of engineering courses. This course must be taken concurrently with Engineering Geometry with Physics - Physics.

Geometry by Design (Grades 9-12)
Subject: Mathematics – Geometry
CTE industry sector/pathway: Building Trades & Construction/Cabinetmaking and Wood Products
Geometry by Design takes a project-based learning approach to developing students’ understanding of geometry through creativity and hands-on activities. Using geometric concepts, students design and build 3-dimensional wooden masterpieces. This course could be part of a Building Trades and Construction Academy as an intermediate course in a sequence of construction and mathematical courses.

LABORATORY SCIENCE ("d") - 2 YEARS REQUIRED; 3 YEARS RECOMMENDED

Note: All lab science courses have Algebra 1 as a prerequisite.

Biological Links to Energy and Environment (Grade 10)
A-G Subject: Laboratory Science - Biological Science
CTE career pathway: Energy and Environmental Technology
What role does cellular biology play in our need for energy? How do the various forms of energy (natural and manmade) affect the biology of our environment? Biological Links to Energy and Environment answers these questions while also addressing environmental laws affecting the energy industry. This course could be part of an Energy and Utilities Academy as an intermediate course in a sequence of energy and environmental tech and lab science courses.

Engineering Geometry with Physics – Physics (Grades 9, 10)
Subject: Laboratory Science – Physics; Mathematics – Geometry 
CTE industry sector/pathway: Engineering and Design/Engineering and Design

Green Up and Go! Clean Energy-neering (Grades 9-12)
Subject: Laboratory Science – Physics
CTE industry sector/pathway: Engineering and Design/Engineering Technology
Green Up and Go! offers students a real world opportunity to discover and understand principles of physics  while they  complete hands-on experimental projects. Building wind generators and personal transportation devices, students explore the benefits and drawbacks of alternative and traditional energy sources. This could be an intermediate course in an Engineering Academy’s sequence of engineering courses.

LANGUAGE OTHER THAN ENGLISH ("e") - 2 YEARS REQUIRED; 3 YEARS RECOMMENDED

Le Francais 3 et Marketing (Level 3)
Subject: Language Other Than English – French
CTE industry sector/pathway: Marketing Sales & Service/Professional Sales and Marketing
Students in Le Francais 3 et Marketing have a real-world opportunity to develop their writing, listening and reading in the French language while developing and applying foundational concepts of marketing. For students who are interested in marketing as a career or who just want to be informed consumers comfortable in the global marketplace, this could be an intermediate course in a Marketing Academy sequence of French and marketing courses.

Native Speaker Spanish 3 for Health Careers (Level  3)
Subject: Language other than English-Spanish
CTE industry sector/pathway: Health Science & Medical Technology/Therapeutic Services
Taught exclusively in the target language, this course begins with a focus on personal health, then broadens to include family, community and public health, and health careers. Students acquire knowledge of a range of public health issues and apply their understanding of public policies to promote health-positive behaviors among individuals, families and the community.  Designed to give students practice in using a full range of academic Spanish vocabulary, with emphasis on health terminology, this course could be part of a Health Science & Medical Technology academy in a sequence of Spanish courses.

Prepàrate a Servir (Level  3)
Subject: Language other than English-Spanish
CTE industry sector/pathway: Health Science & Medical Technology/Patient Care
Students in this course develop and refine their Spanish listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in a health science context. Prepàrate a Servir gives students a chance to explore a career in patient care as well as develop their Spanish language skills using real-world applications, gaining the skills and knowledge to conduct community health workshops on topics ranging from injury prevention to proper nutrition. This course could be part of a Health Science & Medical Technology academy in a sequence of Spanish courses.

Spanish 4 for Patient Care: ¡Socorro! (Level  4)
Subject: Language other than English-Spanish
CTE industry sector/pathway: Health Science & Medical Technology/Patient Care
A flu pandemic scenario provides the context for learning medical terminology and proper procedures for responding to patient needs, Spanish 4 for Patient Care: ¡Socorro! gives students opportunities to advance their Spanish proficiency while exploring health careers and completing assignments such as diagnostic role-plays, the production of a newscast and the creation of a board game. Designed to let students advance their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in a real-world context, this course could be part of a Health Science & Medical Technology academy in a sequence of Spanish Language courses.

Spanish for the Entrepreneurial Mind (Grade 11)
Subject: Language Other Than English – Spanish
CTE industry sector/pathway: Marketing Sales & Service/Professional Sales and Marketing
Rich in connections to entrepreneurship, Spanish for the Entrepreneurial Mind allows students to develop their skills in writing, listening and reading Spanish with a focus on the field of marketing. This course could be part of a Marketing, Sales and Service academy in a sequence of Spanish Language courses.

VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS ("f") - 1 YEAR REQUIRED

Business Statistics could be part of a Business Academy in a sequence of business and mathematics courses. This course must be taken concurrently with Business Statistics - Math.
