Upcoming UCCI Institute!

October 3, 2016

Participate in the UCCI Institute hosted by Elk Grove Charter School, where 5 teams will produce 5 new integrated courses!

We are delighted to announce that UCCI is joining forces with Elk Grove Charter School to host a dynamic UCCI Institute February 1 - 4, 2017! The UCCI Institutes bring educators together to create innovative high school courses that integrate academic subjects with Career Technical Education (CTE). Courses created at UCCI Institutes are submitted for approval in designated “a-g” subject areas; once approved, UCCI courses are made available on the UCCI course catalog for any California high school to teach.

At this Institute, teachers will collaborate to create five unique courses:

  • Arts, Media and Entertainment (with a focus on music) integrated with math (likely Integrated Math 1 or elementary algebra), to be approved in the Math ("c") subject area for UC
  • Arts, Media and Entertainment (with a focus on music) integrated with math (likely Integrated Math 2 or intermediate algebra/trig), to be approved in the Math ("c") subject area for UC
  • Arts, Media and Entertainment (with a focus on graphic design) integrated with 9th grade geography, to be approved in the History/Social Science ("a") subject area for UC
  • Arts, Media and Entertainment (with a focus on Design, Visual, and Media Arts) integrated with 9th grade laboratory science, to be approved in the College-Preparatory Elective ("g") subject area for UC
  • Arts, Media and Entertainment (with a focus on Design, Visual, and Media Arts) integrated with 10th grade laboratory science, to be approved in the Laboratory Science ("d") subject area for UC

UCCI Institutes offer participants the opportunity to:

  • Collaborate with other educators to create integrated courses that bring real-world relevance to traditional academic subjects
  • Learn new approaches to teaching in their content area
  • Gain a better understanding of UC’s “a-g” approval process
