Kristi Leonard
February 23, 2015
On this date we featured Kristi Leonard, a Math Teacher at South Tahoe High School in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District.
UCCI held a Teacher Exchange at Dorsey High School in January 2015, focusing on Da Vinci Algebra 1 - Math and Da Vinci Algebra 1 - VPA, a pair of courses that allow students to see the connections between art and math while also fulfilling CSU/UC admission requirements in Mathematics (C) and Visual and performing arts (F).
Da Vinci Algebra 1 integrates Algebra 1 with the Arts, Media, and Entertainment CTE Industry Sector and has been a popular course. As such, we asked Kristi Leonard, who was on the original course design team and had previously taught Da Vinci Alegbra 1 - Math, about her experience teaching the course.
Our very own Katie Leslie (UCCI Course Development Coordinator) sat down with Kristi in a Google Hangout earlier this year to discuss the development of the course and what advice she could share with those who would like to teach it.
As Kristi explained, she and her course design teammates "wanted to create something bigger that supported math students outside of a traditional realm. Our goal was to look at it...for a student who would feel threatened by [traditional] mathematics."
